I created a striking phoenix-inspired mural for the lobby of Le Fenix Boutique Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. This project gave me the opportunity to showcase my versatility and reinforced my passion for exploring different art styles and techniques.
“Early in my career, I made a conscious decision not to limit myself to painting the same design or logo repeatedly. While recognition for a signature style is great, I find real fulfillment in challenging myself with new styles and techniques. The more diverse my artistic skill set, the more freedom I have to create unique visuals for each client. Just like a DJ or musician expands their sound with a wide range of records, I expand my art by mastering different styles.”
This graffiti mural, designed specifically for Le Fenix Hotel, followed a thorough consultation and design process to ensure it aligned with the client’s vision. One of the key challenges of corporate mural art is making it appealing to the diverse guests that visit this centrally located Bangkok hotel daily.
The project required careful attention to detail. The mural surface was particularly complex, consisting of multiple materials, irregular angles, and functional elements like elevator doors, telephones, and control panels that I had to seamlessly incorporate into the design.
“For every commissioned artwork, the design consultation is a crucial step. My priority is ensuring that the client is completely satisfied with the final piece. During our first meeting, I took reference photos, examined the painting surface, and discussed the client’s vision and preferred art style. Having access to visual references during these discussions helped align expectations and fine-tune the concept.”
The hotel’s name, Le Fenix, naturally influenced the mural theme. The phoenix, a legendary creature that symbolizes rebirth and transformation, was a central element of the design. This mythological bird has appeared in various art styles throughout history, making it a perfect subject for an eye-catching and meaningful graffiti mural.
Le Fenix Hotel is situated on Sukhumvit Soi 11, one of Bangkok’s most vibrant areas, known for its bars, clubs, and nightlife. The hotel offers a prime location, just a short walk from Nana BTS Station, making it easily accessible. Beyond its stylish accommodations, Le Fenix boasts a fantastic rooftop bar, offering a relaxing escape from the city’s bustling energy. The hotel also serves delicious breakfast and dinner buffets, which I had the pleasure of enjoying during my time there. The modern interior design, large windows, and natural light made for an inspiring workspace while conceptualizing the mural.
